Design with a Social Conscience.... Design. Social Conscience. Not what you usually put together, and seemingly unrelated to a web site design company. We disagree. Our philosophy is Reach Globally, Design Locally, paraphrasing a well-known saying intended to reflect the idea that our local community is part of the global community. With that in mind Global Village Web gives a portion of our profits to support Kiva, an organization that arranges micro-loans to entrepreneurs in developing countries. These loans are made to people who couldn't go through traditional lending institutions but have a vision for making their lives, and the lives of their community, better. In the column on the right you can read about the current project that Global Village has supported. However we also understand that many people prefer supporting something more local, or more well-known. To that end we also offer our clients the opportunity to help in a more traditional manner: if requested we contribute a portion of the profits of your web site development project to Canadian charities. We have listed the organizations we suggest below, however you are free to specify a charity as well. Our focus is on charities doing work in the areas of protecting the environment, helping people going through tough times, literacy and human rights. We have selected charities that work on an international level, national level, provincial level (specifically Ontario since it is where we are located), and local level. The local level is broken down into Toronto and Durham Region. Local CharitiesDurham RegionCommunity Care Established in 1977, Community Care Durham (CCD) provides Home Support, Respite (Caregiver Relief) and COPE Mental Health services for adults and their caregivers who have needs related to physical disability, aging and/or mental health. Durham Outlook Durham Outlook for the Needy is the umbrella organization, which operates St. Vincent's Kitchen and St. Vincent's Second Hand Store. St. Vincent's Kitchen is a restaurant providing a community atmosphere, amid a low cost meal in a dignified way to the needy and hungry of the Durham Region. TorontoToronto Environmental Alliance TEA campaigns locally to find solutions to Toronto's urban environmental problems. They work with concerned individuals, community groups, professionals and workers, encouraging the participation of local people on local issues. Yonge Street Mission The Mission is committed to being a pivotal agent of change in our community. Operation Springboard Operation Springboard is an Ontario charity working to help people fulfill their potential and participate fully in their communities. We were founded in 1969. International CharitiesMADRE
MADRE is driven by a commitment to solutions.
